Czech city template

[edit]

A mozna by slo tohle zkoordinovat s ceskou wikipedii (kde ja nejsem) a mit sdilene mapy mest. Pavel Vozenilek 16:32, 31 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging for Image:Pika.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Pika.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

Czech -> English

[edit]

Hi. My name is Eysteinn and I come from Iceland. I'm a huge fan of the movie Hostel. The problem is, they use a lot of different language and don't translate any of it. Since you are from Czech republic, I thought I might ask if you can translate any of the following audio files that I have created. I made my best guess acording to the plot on what language it is. If you could fill in the gaps that you can, that would be greatly appreceated. I will then post it on the wikiquote for the film so that others may enjoy your hard work. I recomend that you turn your speaker up. Preferebly have a pair of headsets.

I just found you by searching for users from Czech, so if you are not able to translate any of this, I will simply contact someone that can. In any case, take care of yourself (c: Cheers. --Steinninn 15:06, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Geoboxes

[edit]

Hi, I've noticed you've been switching Czech towns/cities to Geoboxes. I've recently added a new functionality into Geoboxes: a background map. You can see it at work e.g. here: Pilsen. Hope you're not using IE6 where you can't see the proper display. You might want to use this style of maps for the settlements you edit, I guess the hypsometric background map looks better and is more informative than those blank (or blank with rivers) maps. – Caroig (talk) 22:55, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tip, it looks really well! --mikeshk 05:39, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this is just to let you know you can add auto value to the population_density field, see Teplice, and the template calculates the figure for you. And, I don't won't to sound nitpicky but I wouldn't put the Czech academic titles in front of mayors' names, they're not used this way in English, readers might consider these some sort of names (like Mac in Scottish names). – Caroig (talk) 20:32, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tip and the advice. I will follow it. --mikeshk 20:48, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Geobox tool

[edit]

Hi, you can actually use the Geobox tool for converting Czech settlement from Geobox 1 to Geobox 2. The tool has two major functions, convert from another infobox/geobox and update fields. You can also run it on any Czech settlement already with Geobox 2, it cleans up the fields (it cleans up the website equal signs as well). The only automation for Czech cities is turning on the country_flag option and adding population_density = auto if this field is empty. – Caroig (talk) 21:14, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect! I have another tip: If there is no convertable box on the target page, could it add an empty Geobox instead? Eg. only with the name taken from the page name and these default values you mentioned? What do you think? --mikeshk 05:29, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Seems a good idea. It might be better to have another script which would do that, specific to Czech settlements as the template has no way of nowing the location is to be settlement and not river or castle and that it's not the Czech republic. The code's versatile enough. – Caroig (talk) 09:52, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Geobox

[edit]

Ahoj chlape. :) - Darwinek 15:21, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, beru. Asi mě v tu chvíli naštvalo jen to lakonické I like Infobox more --mikeshk 06:24, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Geobox fixes

[edit]

Hi, Geobox Town is now converted by Geoboxer directly too, without the need to set Geobox Settlement first. (You might have written …) The bug with missing parts is fixed too. – Caroig (talk) 14:28, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Czech Little Districts

[edit]

Please do not remove the information on Little Districts or whatever they are to be called in English. Administratively the Czech Republic divides into these units not Districts anymore, which only exist as a statistical unit. You might move them to the municipality field and the districts to the district field if you deem the districts necessary. The whole Pilsen Region was systematically geoboxed from scratch so you could go up and down the administrative units which I'm afraid is now broken. When time allows I'll create maps of regions with the boundaries of these Little Districts as for the Moravian-Sielsian Region e.g. here Čeladná. – Caroig (talk) 19:00, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't want to destroy your work. I have only thought that Little district is too small unit to be interesting for readers, but I didn't know your plan. I will repair it. --mikeshk 19:13, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's not about my plans or personal preferences, all regions of the Czech Republic are administratively divided into those new Little Districts (Communes or whatever they might be called in English). The Districts still exist as a statistical unit but so also do the old regions such as Severomoravský kraj (in the NUTS system of EU). Any map of the Czech Republic printed or published in the recent years shows divisons by these Little Districts, omitting the old districts completely. Check e.g. this link on the official portal of the country - try to zoom in within a region, you get just limits of the Municiplities with Extended Competence. An encyclopaedia should use the most recent data, in my view the old districts which are obsolete on Wikipedia. – Caroig (talk) 19:25, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can add some handling of this to the Geoboxer for the Czech Republic. By the way, thanks for you conversion list from the CZech Wikipedia Infoboxes. It would also help to include all fields which wouldn't make it to the Geoboxes, these should be mapped to empty strings. For safety the Geoboxer keeps all fields which it doesn't recognize and prints them unchged in a special section. I'll add the Geoboxer for Czech locations when I find the time. – Caroig (talk) 19:31, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum: Also if you follow the external link to the statistical data for any settlement in the Pilsen Region, say Nepomuk, you get a xls table that lists Administrative districts of municipalities with extended powers and the somewhat smaller Administrative districts of municipalities with authorized municipal office, no old districts. – Caroig (talk) 19:47, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, ok, I believe you. :-) So, the term Little District is used as a short form of Municipality with Extended Competence? --mikeshk 20:16, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's not that. I'm just explaining the rationale why I was adding Little Districts instead of Districts. You are entitled to disagree with anything I've written. The best solution for now seems to keep both for now (it does no harm) and perhaps open a discussion on this topic on the Czech portal? We can always rename/remove any of them using by the Geoboxer.
Unfortunatelly, I don't think there's a single official short English term for these administrative units; there's not one in Czech either. – Caroig (talk) 20:52, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Geoboxer and Czech settlements

[edit]

Hi, the Geoboxer with support for fetching data from the Czech wiki has arrived. You can get the Opera button from here: http://wikipedia.paloch.net/Opera.xhtml. Or you can add a tab to your monobook.js.

 //add Geoboxer for Czech settlements
 addOnloadHook(function(){
   var editTab = document.getElementById("ca-edit");
   if (!editTab) return;
   addPortletLink("p-cactions", 'http://wikipedia.paloch.net/Geobox2.php?page='+location.href+'&source=cs_obec',
   "geoboxer.cz", "ca-geobox_cz", "Geoboxer for Slovak settlements","", editTab.nextSibling);
 });

It will add a Geobox to an article which has none. It fetches all usable data from the Infobox on the czech Wikipedia except the mayor. There's no problem to have even that but I don't think it makes sense to have the name of the mayor for all, even the smallest, settlements on the English Wikipedia. It should be able to do quite a lot of data formatting (e.g. convert various date formats), add a direct link to a czech statistical site and many more, I'm sure you'll discover all the functions yourself. The same fixes or applied also on already Geoboxed Czech settlements if the normal Geoboxer is called.

I've decided to use the term Commune instead of Little District as it appears on several English pages, Little district is rather a folk name. The Geoboxer should fix this (and move the data to the appropriate Geobox field automatically). Please test the tool and report any problems. The Geoboxer will work fine if the data on the Czech wiki are formatted in the way the Geoboxer expects to find them, it might fail should they be formatted differently.

The Geoboxer doesn't test whether the image used on the Czech wiki is available thru the commons as well, if not the image will display as a missing link in red color and you'll have to upload it manually. – Caroig (talk) 11:58, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the tool. But for the name in the header of Geobox you should use rather the name from the header of Czech Infobox, try it at e.g. Přepychy (Pardubice District). And there is also missing Mayor attribute that could be taken from Starosta field. --mikeshk 12:45, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The name's fixed as you suggested. As of the mayor, I'm not sure. As I've written in my initial post, this field isn't processed by design. I don't think the mayor's name at every, even the smallest, settlement is relevant information on the English Wikipedia. I guess it's OK to have the mayor listed at larger towns/cities if the mayor's noteworthy. And there's also a second reason against this, most of the names on the Czech Wikipedia are out-of-date (I checked this manually, usually by looking the name up on the settlement's official site). While even an older figure for population fullfills its purpose, what is the informative value of having a name of a local citizen who was once the mayor for a village of tens or hundreds of citizens? Technicaally, adding support for this conversion is no problem. The Geoboxer doesn't eliminate the mayor's name if it's already in the Geobox, it just doesn't fetch it from the Czech wiki if it's missing. – Caroig (talk) 10:06, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

District Templates

[edit]

Please, do not edit new templates before I get it to all related articles. This templates are debugged in cs, there are solved sites with same names (usually in main name the biggest or disambiguation). I am fixing this problems as I insert template. e.g. in template:Hradec Králové District you changed Hvozdnice, but I made disambiguation after some time. Damn, I am problematic user. ;-) Acknowledged. --mikeshk 10:48, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Geobox categories

[edit]

Hi, I've reenabled the auto categorization again taking into account tsome of the objections raised to it. There's a more detailed description how it behaves at Template talk:Geobox#News as of 2007-11-11. As of the Czech Republic and settlements it puts them all into categories based on the category field. See Category:Settlements in the Czech Republic with geodata. It can be set up to create just one category, as you deem more useful. After all Czech settlements have been geoboxed, these categories might be changed into just Category:Villages in the Czech Republic or anything like that. The existing Category:Cities and towns in the Czech Republic might become obsolete or we can redirect the geoboxed towns and cities to it. If you wish to change anything, just update Template:Geobox category/settlement/Czech Republic. The existing artciles will be put into those categories after the Wiki software purges their cache, this can be speed up by saving those pages manually. – Caroig (talk) 16:30, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect. Thank you.--mikeshk 15:52, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Dubá

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Dubá requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -Pumpmeup 06:19, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar

The Working Man's Barnstar
I, Tankred, award you this Working Man's Barnstar for your laborious creation of articles on municipalities of the Czech Republic. Tankred (talk) 22:48, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, thank you very much. I am working on it because I think that the article with Geobox is better (I mean better than a simple sentence like XXX is a town in the Czech Republic) starting point for next editors to inspire them to start working on the main text of the article. --mikeshk (talk) 08:17, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Damn, Tankred, you was quicker! Congrats Mikesh, I also intended to give you a barnstar for your work. It is great you create all those new articles, especially that this job would be also possible for bot and you do it manually. Respect! P.S. Czech Republic has about 7,000 municipalities (obce). Do you plan to cover all after covering all towns? :) Take care! - Darwinek (talk) 12:30, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Darwinek, thank you too. :) Well, for doing this I have made my own tool (similar to Caroig's Geoboxer) that creates Geobox in second using information from the CS wikipedia, so the tirest work is automated. I only have to fix badly fetched information, find CoAs, flags and any interesting photo of the settlement - this part of the work I enjoy. :) And yes - the first milestone are the Czech towns (I keep your Infoboxed North-Moravian in the end :), I don't know if I will continue on villages now. --mikeshk 13:34, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Do not downplay your work:-) Since I use the Geoboxer tool for towns and villages in Slovakia, I know how tiresome fixing bad entries from sk.wikipedia and adding images from commons actually is. By the way, I believe it is feasible to cover all the villages in the Czech Republic. It has been done (by 2-3 users and without any automated tools) in the case of Slovakia. If you decide to go this way, I wish you good luck and diligent collaborators. Tankred 23:56, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Little context in Strmilov

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Strmilov, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Strmilov is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Strmilov, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Fair use rationale for Image:Cd logo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Cd logo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 15:27, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Cd logo.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cd logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:17, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Miroslav_ouzsky.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 19:23, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Oldrich_dedek.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Oldrich_dedek.jpg.

Fair use rationale for File:Karel kryl.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Karel kryl.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 14:19, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Mikeshk! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 331 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Oldřich Dědek - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Petr Kostka - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

File source problem with File:Emil holub.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Emil holub.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:22, 27 November 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 02:22, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:KlicperaVK.jpg needs authorship information

[edit]
Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:KlicperaVK.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|Mikeshk}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:38, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Mikroregion Urbanická brázda has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Mikroregion Urbanická brázda is a legal entity, not a geographical entity, and is not notable in any way. Basically, every smaller municipality out of 6,000 in the Czech Republic is part of some such association of municipalities, but only two such associations have an article here, both of which I propose to delete.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
